2011-01-31

The HKUST MBA program's global ranking hits its highest-ever placement as it is ranked 6th best in the world according to the Financial Times 2011 rankings of the top 100 full-time global MBA programs released today. The HKUST MBA program is ranked top 10 on a three-year average.

The result reflects a significant advancement in the program's ranking over the past years, which moved up from 9th place in 2010 and 16th place in 2009. For the second year in a row, the HKUST Business School is the only Asian business school to crack the Financial Time's global MBA top 10. The School's research also ranks high at world's no. 14.

The improved 2011 ranking demonstrates the program's ability to ensure its graduates' career progression and to maintain its high degree of international diversity. This year's ranking surveyed the 2007 MBA graduating class, and the HKUST's came 4th in the world and best among the top 10 in terms of salary percentage increase, with a three year increase of 142% over their pre-MBA salary.

The HKUST MBA program was also cited for the highest international diversity of both its student body and world-class faculty among the top ten programs. Professor Steven DeKrey, Senior Associate Dean and Director of Masters Programs of the HKUST Business School, said, "The HKUST MBA program offers a truly global MBA experience as our students come from a wide spectrum of nationalities, industries and job functions. They are taught by an international faculty that includes research stars and industry leaders. Together they share unique and diverse perspectives."

HKUST President Tony F Chan said, "It is gratifying that our MBA program continues to stand out among its peers in global ranking. Being among the very best in the world is an extraordinary accomplishment the University and Hong Kong take much pride in. With a history of merely two decades, the HKUST Business School has built a top-tier status that strongly affirms its academic excellence. We shall aspire to continue to make a strong international impact with our devotion and commitment."

Professor Leonard Cheng, Dean of HKUST Business School said, "The MBA program's remarkable achievement is an honor for everyone in the School who has made a contribution to making the program a transformational learning experience. Our faculty, students, alumni and staff will work closely to continue our journey as one of the world's best business schools."

The high level of diversity of the HKUST MBA program is also apparent in the current full-time class, where 93% of students come from outside Hong Kong. Around 23% are originally from North America, Mainland China 23%, other Asian nationalities 21%, Europe 20%, and others 6%. The average student age of the current class is 29 and they have an average 6 years of work experience.
