HKUST Information Day Gives Applicants a Head Start

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) hosted Information Day 2013 to provide prospective undergraduates with up-to-date and comprehensive information, and course offerings. The event drew an overwhelming response with over 35,000 participants converging on the campus in a single day.

HKUST’s Information Day featured around 60 admission talks and seminars on academic programs, including ‘Why you have to study Life Science?’, ‘Engineering Programs Application Strategy & Freshmen Sharing: My Mixed Feelings towards Engineering at HKUST’, ‘Introduction of Business & Management Programs’, ‘Admissions Talk on Global China Studies Program’ and ‘Dual Degree (BEng&BBA) Program in Technology and Management’ among others, during which students got acquainted with JUPAS and Non-JUPAS admission schemes, entrance requirements and selection processes, as well as programs offered by the Schools of Science, Engineering, Business and Management, Humanities and Social Science and the Interdisciplinary Programs Office. Student representatives also enthusiastically shared their experiences at HKUST.

On top of the above, a wide range of consultation sessions was organized by the Undergraduate Recruitment and Admissions Office and various Schools, in which professors, student ambassadors and personnel in charge explained the programs’ unique characteristics and the rationale for School-based admissions in addition to answering queries on the spot. At the same time, the Career Center also invited alumni who are now employers spoke to the visitors on students career prospects, the competitive edge enjoyed by HKUST students and ways to gear up for challenges of the future.

Other activities included guided laboratory tours specially arranged by the Schools of Science and Engineering, which covered Robot Manipulation Lab, Industrial Automation Lab, Multimedia Technology Research Center, Molecular Characterization Lab, Coastal Marine Laboratory and others. Also featured in the tours were briefings on world-leading research areas and initiatives such as Molecular Beam Epitaxy and Non-linear Optics, which helped participants better understand the University.

To inspire a more thorough and multidimensional understanding of HKUST campus life, the University also opened the doors of Library, halls and other leisure and information technology facilities to the public. The music and Chinese cultural performances put up by HKUST faculty, staff and students added another dimension to the rich campus life at HKUST.
