HKUST Launches Open Online Courses in Full Stack Web Development on Coursera to Advance Access to Career-Relevant Education

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is launching an online course series teaching Full Stack Web Development on Coursera, the world’s largest open online education provider. Scheduled to start on September 15th, the program, named“Full Stack Web Development Specialization”, is composed of a series of courses taught by the University’s top faculty and accessible to anyone. The Specialization will be taught by Prof Jogesh Muppala and Prof David Rossiter from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, and is designed to give students the opportunity to learn state-of-the-art knowledge and skills in Web development, including a comprehensive Capstone Project to demonstrate their skills. Towards this goal, the Specialization covers the latest in Javascript-based front-end and server-side technologies including NodeJS, the fastest growing server-side platform, and AngularJS, the most widely used client-side Javascript framework.

“A unique feature of this Specialization is the development of skills targetting mobile devices, the fastest-growing platform for Internet access.” Prof Jogesh Muppala explained.“In particular, it covers Cordova and the Ionic framework, two fastest-growing hybrid mobile application development platforms. This will prepare the students for a red-hot job market for full stack web developers.”
