HKUST Shares Mystery of Musical Composition with General Public in The Intimacy of Creativity Series of Rehearsals and Concerts

2011-04-26

As a highlight of the 20th anniversary celebration of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), The Intimacy of Creativity presents world-famous musicians from overseas who will play and discuss new music with world-famous and emerging composers. This event is hosted by HKUST's School of Humanities and Social Science (SHSS).

The Intimacy of Creativity is the first-of-its-kind series of music workshops and concerts in Hong Kong. In line with HKUST's commitment to nurturing all-rounded global leaders, SHSS is presenting this event as part of its music and humanities education research project. The Intimacy of Creativity introduces a new perspective in appreciating music by showcasing the creative process of a new work. By exposing HKUST students to this unique experience, the goal is to develop innovative and imaginative thinkers.

Prof James Z Lee, Dean of Humanities and Social Science, HKUST, said, "The School of Humanities and Social Science aims to develop programs in creative arts, and the scale of music education will grow manifolds."

"Music stimulates creativity in many pursuits, including in various academic fields and in life. MIT introduced music education over four decades ago, and it has been found that students who took these music courses were more creative in thinking than those who didn't. At HKUST, we hope that music education for our students will not only sharpen their academic performance, but also enhance their ability to appreciate life," Prof Lee added.
