Following the recent Government’s announcement to lift all the mandatory mask-wearing requirements starting from 1 March, the University will remove this last anti-epidemic measures accordingly, and return to pre-pandemic normalcy in full. The following updated arrangements are implemented with immediate effect:

  1. Members do not need to wear a mask on campus, either for work or lessons in classrooms and laboratories. However, the University recommends members to consider wearing a mask in crowded places, including public transportation and lifts.
  2. In line with public hospitals, members are required to wear a mask in the Campus Medical Clinic.
  3. Members who have respiratory symptoms should wear a mask to protect other people. They should rest at home, avoid crowed places, and seek medical attention if necessary.
  4. Members who are tested COVID positive are no longer required to report to the University. They should follow the Government's health advice: those with symptoms (e.g., fever, cough, shortness of breath, vomiting and diarrhea) should stay at home for rest and seek medical attention as soon as possible. Staff can apply for sick leave as with other illnesses. Information of sick leave is available in the HRO Staff Manual. Members who are tested positive but without symptoms can come to work or attend classes.
  5. If members with respiratory symptoms must come to campus, they should wear a mask at all times to protect other people, and they should avoid crowded places.
  6. COVID-19 Info@HKUST website is now obsolete. Members should refer to the Government COVID-19 website for latest Government's announcements and information. If you need to access the old information on the COVID-19 Info@HKUST website, you may send your enquiry to HSEO through safety@ust.hk.

We are all glad that this last anti-pandemic measure is lifted. Let us all remember the valuable lessons about protecting ourselves from respiratory infectious diseases, and continue to safeguard the health of ourselves and other people.
