The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has conferred the award of Honorary Fellowship on Mr Sing Cheong Liu, Chairman of Hang Cheong Surveyors Ltd, for his innovations in business management. The presentation ceremony was held today (29 June 2001) at the HKUST campus.
The objective of the Honorary Fellowship is to demonstrate the University's appreciation to members of the community who have made significant contributions both to the community and to HKUST. The award is also a means of fostering the town-and-gown relationship and of rallying the support of community and business leaders. A chartered surveyor, Mr Liu built up a successful business in the local real estate market during the early 1990s. In a far-sighted move, he established Guangzhou Pearl River-Hang Cheong Real Estate Consultants in 1993 and redirected the focus of his business to Guangzhou. His perseverance in following his personal vision and professional insights has created an award-winning real estate operation in Guangzhou. Mr Liu is also well known for his staunch support of continuous education. Not only does he provide his staff with many learning opportunities and sponsorships, he has also actively supported young academics in their research on the Hong Kong and Chinese Mainland property markets. He is also active in public service and gives support to a number of public organizations, Government committees and educational institutions. Mr Liu became a founding postgraduate student of HKUST when he enrolled in the University's MBA program in 1991. His close ties with the University continued after graduation and he is now a Corporate Advisor to the School of Business and Management and a Member of the Advisory Committee on Entrepreneurship.
