Farewell Dinner for President Chia-Wei Woo |

The former members of the Planning Committee, together with the former and current Members of the Court and Council of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), hosted a farewell dinner for the founding President, Prof Chia-Wei Woo, and his wife Yvonne last night.
More than 100 business and community leaders and representatives of the University gathered at the Jockey Club in Happy Valley to pay tribute to Prof Woo. Addressing the dinner party, Dr the Hon Sze-Yuen Chung, Pro-Chancellor of HKUST, praised the effective and visionary leadership of Prof Woo. "Few men have achieved such an excellent track record in the field of tertiary education and your style of devotion and example of leadership deeply impress us all."
Dr Vincent H S Lo, Chairman of the University Council, also saluted Prof Woo for his unique contribution to the University. "You have been instrumental in the creation and development of an institution of learning and research with which we are all proud to be in association with," Dr Lo said. Prof Woo was invited to join the University's Planning Committee in 1986, and was appointed its founding President in 1988. He is awarded the honorary titles of President Emeritus as well as University Professor Emeritus, the latter being the highest honor for an academic at the University, upon his retirement on 1 July 2001.
