Press Release   16 June 2000 Managing Knowledge in the Digital Information Age
	The Library of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and the OCLC (Online Computer Library Center, Inc.) Institute are organizing a seminar on knowledge management for information professionals in this region. This is the first OCLC Institute to be held in Asia. Entitled "Knowledge Management: Methods and Systems", the seminar will be held from 19 to 21 June at the HKUST campus. It will examine the background, definitions, characteristics and goals of knowledge management, and the intersection of this increasingly popular management trend with the Web revolution and digital knowledge resources. The key components of knowledge management--resources, systems, processes and people--will also be covered. "As technology changes the way knowledge is created, used, stored and accessed, information professionals will have to manage these changes successfully through the effective use of cutting-edge technologies," said Min-min Chang, the University Librarian. The OCLC Institute is an education division of OCLC, the world's largest information services provider. The Institute promotes the evolution of libraries and information services through advanced education and knowledge exchange. Since its set-up in 1997, it has organized numerous workshops, seminars and forums for library professionals all over the world.
