As
HKUST moves forward into this bright future, its shape
and presence on the world scene will change. First of
all, while HKUST will remain committed to a high quality
undergraduate program, an emphasis will be placed on
enlarging our role in research postgraduate education.
HKUST will supplement its efforts on its current campus
by establishing an independent graduate school in South
China, which will become a leading producer of research
program graduates in China. These graduates will be
an influential force in the upgrading and expansion
of higher education in the Mainland.
As many of its innovation and technology initiatives
target the development of Hong Kong and the area around
the Pearl River Delta, a new research and development
facility will be established in South China to serve
the needs of economic development in the region. This
facility will also provide valuable opportunities for
training and internships for undergraduate and postgraduate
students based on the main campus.
At home in Hong Kong, the campus will be transformed
by the development of the remaining open space on the
campus. With its dramatic location above the current
main campus platform, it will provide a fitting home
for the new School of Innovation and Technology Management,
a world class Executive Education Center, and the Institute
for Advanced Study at HKUST.
