An international conference on "Survey Research
in Chinese Societies: Methods and Findings" was held at the HKUST on
27 - 28 June, 1999. The conference was an activity used an opening
ceremony for the SRC. Professor Otto Lin attended and addressed to
the conference. A total 29 speakers were invited from the Chinese
Mainland (10), Singapore (1), Taiwan (5), the United States (3), and
Hong Kong (10: 3 from the Hong Kong University of Science and
Technology, 4 from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, 1 each from
Baptist University of Hong Kong , City University of Hong Kong, and
the University of Hong Kong). The 2-day conference attracted about 40
scholars and students from Hong Kong. Thirteen conference papers were
selected and were published in a book by Oxford University Press (HK),
edited by the three co-organizers of the conference ( Prof. Yanjie
BIAN, Prof. Alvin Y SO, Prof. Edward Jow-ching TU).
