Since HKUST was established eight years ago, our faculty members have been conducting research at the frontiers of science and technology in areas such as biotechnology, advanced materials, Internet technology, and microelectronics. As the University enters a time of first harvest when research findings of our faculty can be developed into commercially viable products, a series of talks under the theme "Applicable High-Tech from HKUST" has been organized with the objective of introducing these applicable findings to business and community leaders in Hong Kong.

The HKUST Business Roundtable is a special program of the University sponsored by Dr Helmut Sohmen, Chairman of World-Wide Shipping Agency Ltd and a member of the University's Court. These town-and-gown sessions take place over dinner every three to four months, bringing together senior government officials, prominent business and community leaders, members of the diplomatic corps, and HKUST faculty for a presentation of a topical subject followed by an exchange of views.
