Cost of Living in Hong Kong
|
Students are advised to carefully consider the financial
aspects associated with their studies in Hong Kong. Full‐time non-local
students may, upon written advice from the Hong Kong Immigration
Department, be allowed to take up study or curriculum related
internship, as well as part‐time work during term time (restricted to
campus work only) and full‐time work during the summer vacation.
However, research postgraduate students (RPGs) receiving Postgraduate
Studentships may not engage in employment, full-time or part-time,
during the academic year. Visiting and inbound exchange students are
also not allowed to work in Hong Kong.
The tuition fee and the accommodation cost are the primary expenditure
items. In addition, you will need to cover cost of textbooks, local
travel, clothing and other personal needs. The price of meals, books and
incidental personal expenses vary according to individual preferences.
An average HKUST student spends approximately HK$100 (US$12) per day for
meals on-campus. The costs of meals off-campus vary and are
substantially higher. Depending on your spending pattern, personal
miscellaneous expenses on local transportation, laundry, sundries and
entertainment, etc. will be about HK$300 per week. |
