Introduction

As a result of the diversification of work tasks and rapid changes in modern organizations and professions, people now have to constantly upgrade themselves to cope with the increasingly complex tasks they have to perform, be they professionals or generalists in commerce, finance or industry. Related to this development, demand for quality continuing and professional training has been increasing also at a rapid rate. In this connection, schools and units of the University have offered different types of continuing and professional education programs at various levels on a self-financing basis to cater for the lifelong learning needs of the workforce in Hong Kong.

The Office of Continuing and Professional Education (OCPE), a sub-unit in the Office of the Provost, has the brief to co-ordinate and oversee the efforts of schools and units of the University in the provision of continuing and professional education programs for working adults in Hong Kong as well as South China. Apart from playing a central liaison role, OCPE is also the University's link with external bodies and Government agencies concerning continuing education matters.
