Business Magnate Dr Allan Zeman Sheds Light on Entrepreneurship at UC RUSAL President's Forum

2013-11-22

UC RUSAL (SEHK: 486, Euronext: RUSAL/RUAL, Moscow Exchange: RUALR/RUALRS), a leading global aluminum producer, and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) hosted the UC RUSAL President's Forum today, featuring Dr Allan Zeman, Chairman of Lan Kwai Fong Group and Chairman of Ocean Park Corporation.

At the Forum, hosted by Prof Tony F Chan, President of HKUST, renowned businessman Dr Allan Zeman shared his insights on: 'Entrepreneurship: Turning “I Wish” into “I Will” ‘ with HKUST students, faculty and members of the public. Dr Zeman said: "One of the most important tenets for an entrepreneur is to dream big. The entrepreneur must be driven to take that dream and make it a reality. Do not dwell on the past because it has already gone. But look ahead as you can still change tomorrow."

"As an entrepreneur, you need to have confidence and decide for yourself what you really love in life. If you truly love what you are doing, you will be good at it and you will be able to advance in the future. Don't be afraid to think out of the box, and always see the beautiful side of things. You should strive to always turn a negative around into a positive and use it to your advantage. And be a leader, be brave enough to lead. Being a leader is to paint a clear picture of your enterprise, so that you can involve your employees and they can understand how they can be part of the vision that you see," Dr Zeman added.

Dubbed the "Father of Lan Kwai Fong", Dr Allan Zeman miraculously developed the network of narrow streets behind Hong Kong's central business district into a world-class entertainment area and a must-visit destination. He has exported the Lan Kwai Fong brand to Mainland China in recent years. He also turned Hong Kong's Ocean Park marine theme park into one of the world's top-50 most visited destinations.

Living in Hong Kong for over 40 years, Dr Zeman has taken on public service roles in a number of key government and community organizations, including Member of the Board of West Kowloon Cultural District Authority and Chairman of its Performing Arts Committee. He is also a member of the Economic Development Commission Working Group on Convention and Exhibition Industries and Tourism. He was awarded the Gold Bauhinia Star and Grand Bauhinia Medal in 2004 and 2011 respectively. HKUST conferred the honorary degree of Doctor of Business Administration on Dr Zeman last year in recognition of his outstanding achievements and contributions to society.
