Setting up Windows XP Device to Access eduroam Wi-Fi Service

This page provides instructions for HKUST Staff & Students to set up Windows XP devices to connect to eduroam Wi-Fi Service.

Users are recommended to use the Wi-Fi Services Advisor if they are not sure which Wi-Fi service should be used.

The setup guide consists of 2 parts:


Configure eduroam Wi-Fi Service

Step 1: Bring up Network Connections window

  1. Click Start Settings Network Connections

  2. Turn on the wireless connection:

  3. Right-click Wireless Network Connection again, select Properties, click the Wireless Networks tab

  4. Tick Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings

  5. Press Add...

 

Step 2: Configure Wireless Network Properties (Association tab)

  1. Key-in eduroam in the Network Name (SSID) field (Note: SSID is case-sensitive)

  2. Select WPA in the Network Authentication: field

  3. Select TKIP in Data encryption: field

  4. Press the Authentication tab for next step

 

Step 3: Configure Wireless Network Properties (Authentication tab)

  1. On the Authentication tab:

  2. In the Protected EAP Properties window:

  3. In the EAP MSCHAPv2 Properties window:

 

Step 4: Configure Advanced Properties

  1. Configure Advanced Properties of Wireless Networks

  2. Configure Firewall

You are done with the configurations of eduroam Wi-Fi Service!


Access eduroam Wi-Fi Service

Step 1: Connect to eduroam Wi-Fi Service

  1. When you reach any eduroam Wi-Fi Service hotspot, you will see this icon in the system tray. Click on it and the Enter Credentials window will appear.

Step 2: Logon to eduroam Wi-Fi Service

  1. In the Enter Credentials window:

    Please note that the username and password are cached and hence the above window will not re-appear until you change your password.

Congratulations! You have connected to eduroam Wi-Fi Service!
