eduroam Overview

What is eduroam?

Education Roaming (eduroam) is an international wireless service which makes use of IEEE 802.1X technology to provide free, easy and flexible Wi-Fi access among educational institutions around the globe.

By joining eduroam, free Wi-Fi service is available for:

• HKUST staff and students when they are visiting other eduroam member institutions. These include almost all local tertiary institutions.
• Visitors from other eduroam member institutions when they are visiting HKUST.

In either case, the users only need their own accounts / passwords without the need to setup any guest accounts at the visiting institutions.

For HKUST staff & students to use eduroam Wi-Fi service at other eduroam institutions,

• The user must make sure the visiting institution is an eduroam member.
• The user must have a valid ITSC Network Account. For details of ITSC Network Account, please visit ITSC Network Account Facilities

For visitors to use eduroam Wi-Fi service at HKUST,

• Visitor must be equipped with a 802.11a, 802.11b/g or 802.11n wireless device.
• Visitor must configure the wireless devices to support 802.1X authentication.

For Visitors from other eduroam members, eduroam Wi-Fi Service is available in most of the public areas and catering outlets of HKUST.
