Select Certificates with Outlook / Outlook Express
HKUST Card holders using the Personal (Smartcard) e-Cert will need to register
your e-Cert before you can use it with Outlook or Outlook Express. Please
refer to the web page Certificate Registration
for the details. After you have registered the e-Cert, you may go to the
web page Signing email with Outlook / Outlook Express.
If you have multiple certificates, you may need to select the require
one with your mail tools:
In case you are using the Personal e-Cert and only have it installed with
Netscape Communicator, it is necessary for your to export your certificate
from Netscape Communicator and then import it to Internet Explorer. Click
here for the required steps.
Select Certificates with Outlook

Apply the latest Service Pack for Microsoft Outlook using Windows Update
if you have not done this before

Start Microsoft Outlook, select Options... from the Tools
menu

Select the Security tab and click on the Settings... button
under the Secure e-mail section

Some version of Outlook may display a dialog box "The certificate specified
in the security setting cannot be found on the this computer", click
OK when prompted

Enter the required "Security Settings Name"

Click the Choose... button for "Signing Certificate:"

Select the required certificate you want to use

Repeat the steps to choose the required "Encryption Certificate"
if necessary

Click OK to exit the Change Security Setting window

Click OK to exit the Option window
Select Certificates with Outlook
Express
- Start Outlook Express, select Accounts... from the Tools
menu
- Select the Mail tab
- Select your personal account and click the Properties button
- Select the Security tab
- Click the Select... button for "Signing certificate"
- Select the required certificate you want to use
- Click the Select... button for "Encrypting preferences"
- Select the required certificate you want to use
- Click OK to close the Properties window
- Click Close to close the Internet Account window
