Managing Contacts' Digital Certificates with Outlook / Outlook Express:

To send an encrypted message, you must have a copy of the recipient's digital certificate in your address book. Outlook / Outlook Express enables you to view digital certificates stored in your address book and easily add and remove contacts' Digital certificates.

Storing a Digital Certificate from a Signed Message

When you receive a signed message from someone, you can store their digital certificate in your address book:
  1. Open the signed message from Outlook.
  2. Right-click the name in the From field and select Add to contacts
  3. Click Save and Close

Finding Someone's Digital Certificate from HKUST LDAP Server

You need to setup a directory service to let Outlook query HKUST LDAP Server to get other's digital certificate. Click here for the required steps.

To find someone's digital certificate:

  1. Select the Address Book... from the Tools menu.
  2. Select Find People... from the Edit menu.
  3. In the "Look in" drop down box, select HKUST LDAP Server,
  4. Type other's name or e-mail address and click Find Now
  5. Check if the there is digital certificate with the people found:
    1. Click Properties of the people found
    2. Click the Digital IDs tab

    3. Click Cancel
  6. Click Add to Address Book button

To view/ delete a digital certificate from your Address Book:
  1. Open the address entry for the person whose digital certificate you want to view/remove.
  2. Click the Certificates tab.
  3. Select the digital certificate that you want to view/ remove.
  4. Click the corresponding button.
Please note that when you delete the default digital certificate for a contact, you will no longer be able to send encrypted e-mail to that person.
