Personal (Smartcard) e-Cert available for HKUST Card holders

Personal (Smartcard) e-Cert is issued to individuals who have a valid HKUST Card. It is a digital certificate to provide important assurances of the your identity in electronic transactions over untrusted network, such as the Internet. By using your Personal (Smartcard) e-Cert, you can enjoy online applications such as secure email, online purchases, online subscription or other services in a secure and convenient environment.

Application Procedure

You can go to the HKUST Certificate Management System (CMS) where step-by-step instructions will guide you to get your Personal (Smartcard) e-Cert. You are advised to perform the application with Internet Explorer on machines equipped with Smartcard reader either in computer barns or your office.

Special Cases for Students

Some users (just a few number) who may receive their HKUST Card without signing the Acknowledgement Receipt. In that case, you will need to present your HKUST Card, together with an application form, to the Registration Authority (ITSC office) for personal verification. Registration Authority Officer will verify your identity and submitted information before approval of your application.

Successful applicants will receive an email notification from HKUST CA and you may just browse to the URL stated in the email to download your digital certificate.
