Email Client Configuration

Most email clients support both the IMAP or POP access to the mail server and users are free to choose either of them. If you do not have any preference, the IMAP access method is recommended.

The following table summaries the IMAP sever settings for different group of users (except some staff users are still using the legacy "uxmail" system):

Authentication for sending mail through "smtp.ust.hk" is required if you are using the mail client with internet connections via:

Some Internet Service Providers (ISP) required you to use their SMTP server if you are using their internet connection service. Please check with your ISP for the required SMTP settings.

You may refer to the quick reference for the other server settings. In case you have problem access to your mailboxes with the above settings, you will need to lookup the required server setting with your ITSC account.

In case you would like to access their mailboxes casually from an Internet café, a friend's house or any other computer with an Internet connection without the need to configure any email client, you may use the Web-Based Email Service.
