Research Excellence

HKUST has identified 5 high-impact areas to continue building on its already first-rate competencies for the advancement of the world. Excellent Supporting Facilities
HKUST provides abundant facilities and services for students to enrich their academic skills and potentials. The 5- storey library houses in excess of 760,000 printed books, journals and microform plus 36,000 media items. Electronic resources include more than 310 databases, over 26,000 full text e-journals and 170,000 e-books. In addition to classrooms and laboratories, the campus also provides student accommodation, as well as athletic and recreational facilities. For the convenience of the campus community, a wide range of services including cafés, restaurants, a bookstore, a supermarket, a food court, visitors' lodgings, and banks are also provided.

Increasing Impact in Mainland China
To fully capitalize on Hong Kong’s advantages as a gateway to China, HKUST is expanding its impact on the Mainland. HKUST Fok Ying Tung Graduate School at Nansha near Guangzhou has ten research centers in operation. To take a step forward, HKUST has cooperated with Shenzhen local government and Peking University to establish a high tech incubation service center in Gaoxin district in Shenzhen, namely the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Industry, Education and Research Base (IER). The facility will focus on area development, key technology for industry and comparative research, and is expected to serve as a leading regional source for postgraduate students.

Accessible Location in a Quiet Neighborhood
The University occupies an impressive 60-hectare site on the northern end of Clear Water Bay Peninsula in East Kowloon. Built on hillside along a beautiful shoreline, the campus grounds are terraced to afford buildings on all levels with unobstructed panoramic views of the sea. The sweeping natural beauty offers a refreshing place to live and study, while still being conveniently located. The city centre is less than 30 minutes by public transport. The campus itself is linked by regular bus services to nearby Mass Transit Railway stations, which connect to most parts of Hong Kong.
