Teaching Resources Guide

This Teaching Resource Guide for Teaching Assistants was designed to serve as an introduction to teaching at UST and to provide some practical ideas for developing your teaching skills.

The Guide is comprised of two sections: the Teaching Environment and TAs Skills. The Teaching Environment section is made up of the following topics:

 

  • Information for newcomers
  • Duties of Teaching Assistants
  • Support services to TAs
  • Resources at UST

The TAs Skills section is made up of the following topics:

  • How does a TA cooperate with his/her course instructor?
  • Preparing for the first meeting/class
  • Leading discussion groups
  • Presenting information to students
  • Giving explanations to students
  • Asking questions in class
  • Conducting a laboratory session
  • How to guide students in writing written assignments
  • Marking, grading and dealing with academic dishonesty
  • Motivating your students
  • Classroom management
  • How do I know if I am doing a good job?
