News 2008-09, Guest Visit Mr. Richard Lakerveld from Delft University of Technology visited CCPP from December 2008 to March 2009. During the visit, Richard conducted experiments and shared his expertise in issues on seeding policy and crystallizer scale-up. The following picture was taken in a lunch gathering with the research group. 2008, AIChE Best Student Paper Award The CCPP PhD student, Mr. Martin Kwok won the best student paper award (Process Development Division) at the AIChE 100th Anniversary Meeting in November 2008.
2007, Guest Visit Prof. Shinji Hasebe from Kyoto University visited CCPP and the HKUST for exchange of research ideas in September 2007.
2006, Establishment and Inauguration Ceremony of NAMI Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr. Rafael Hui held the inauguration ceremony of the Nano and Advanced Materials Institute Limited (NAMI) on 20 April 2006. 2004, Symposium of Integrated Chemical Processes at the MPI Professor Ka Ming Ng presented a paper entitled “Development of Reactive Crystallization Processes,” at the Symposium of Integrated Chemical Processes, that took place at the Max-Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems, Magdeburg, Germany, March 22-24, 2004. 2004, Visit to the Universidad de Antofagasta With support from the Chilean government, Professor Ka Ming Ng visited the Universidad de Antofagasta and the mining industries in the north of Chile. This picture was taken at SQM S.A. at the Salar de Atacama. 2004, Prof. Ka Ming Ng Honored as AIChE Fellow Prof Ka Ming Ng has been elected as a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) in recognition of his significant contributions in chemical engineering. 2004, CCPP Meeting The 2004 Consortium of Chemical Products and Processes Meeting was held at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology on January 15, 2004. Invited lectures from industrial as well as academic experts were presented. A tour of some of the research laboratories and facilities was also organized. Information of accommodation, transportation, etc for visitors (by invitation) 2003, Visit to a Salt Production Facility in China The CCPP research engineers, Alice Cheng and Emily Lai visited a salt production facility in China in October, 2003. 2003, Opening Ceremony of INMT The Institute of NanoMaterials and NanoTechnology (INMT) was inaugurated on 5 September 2003 at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) to advance the research on nanotechnology and to develop new nanotech products in collaboration with local industries. The inauguration ceremony was officiated by Mr Tung Chee Hwa, Chief Executive of the HKSAR, and Prof Paul Chu, President of HKUST.
2003, Establishment of INMT HKUST received HK$100 million from the Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC) and local industries to establish the Institute of Nanomaterials and Nanotechnology (INMT). "The primary goal with the INMT will be the development of functional, multiple-application nanomaterials and technologies relevant to the economic growth of Hong Kong," said Prof Ka Ming Ng, Project Coordinator of INMT. 2002, Visit to a Medical Company in Kunming We visited a medical company and Stone Forest in Kunming in December, 2002. 2002, Open House of Department of Chemical Engineering An open house of the Department of Chemical Engineering was held at HKUST on August 29, 2002. The Open House aims to introduce the Chemical Engineering Department to the participants and to provide a unique forum for exchanging ideas and identifying potential collaborative projects between the participants and our department. Many positive comments about the activities and facilities in our University and Department were heard from the visitors consisting of industrial research department heads, academics and government officials. The following photos were taken during the event. 2002, Guest Visit Mr. Tatsuo Tanaka of Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation visited Prof. Ng's research group at HKUST from 31 January to 8 February, 2002. During the visit, Mr. Tanaka conducted research and shared his expertise in plant operations. The following picture was taken before a Bounenkai for the Chinese New Year with the entire research group, with Mr. Tanaka being the tallest individual at the back.
