Public transportation in Hong Kong is very efficient, and getting to and from HKUST by taxi, the MTR, or bus is easy, as is accessibility by car.

The main gate of the campus features a large and easily recognizable sign with the university's name written in both English and Chinese.

Transportation

  • Taxi

Taxis provide the simplest way to the University, and are available at any MTR station, from hotels and most areas of Hong Kong. A typical journey between the airport and Tsim Sha Tsui (where the recommended hotels situated) costs about HK$270 and between Tsim Sha Tsui and HKUST costs about HK$110. Please note that only HK dollars will be accepted by your driver.

 

 

  • Airport Express Rail

The train journey between the airport and downtown Hong Kong takes approximately 23 minutes. The one-way adult fare from the airport to Kowloon Station is HK$90. Trains run every 10 minutes from 5:50am-1:00am daily. You can get off from the train at Kowloon station and ride on the free shuttle-bus (frequency: every 20 minutes) to all major hotels in Tsim Sha Tsui.

  • MTR

The Mass Transit Railway (MTR) is an underground subway (metro) system serving Hong Kong island, Kowloon, and the airport. The MTR is the easiest way for visitors to get around Hong Kong. 

Tickets can be purchased from machines in the stations on a trip-by-trip basis or you can purchase multi-use Octopus cards at MTR ticket windows.

The Choi Hung, Lam Tin and Hang Hau MTR stations are the closest to the University, and you can then board a bus/minibus (details below) or taxi  to the main entrance of HKUST.

  • Buses / Minibuses

Note that only HK dollars will be accepted when you board on a bus or minibus. So please prepare some HK dollar coins, or Octopus card can be used. You may ask the driver or passengers for assistance if you are not sure when to get off, as the final destination may not be HKUST (except Bus 298M & Minibus11M).

  • By Coach

Transfer seat-in-coach can be provided by PC TOURS AND TRAVEL between the airport and the hotel at HK$120 per person for each single journey. For reservation, please complete and return the Reservation Form for Hotel Accommodation & Transfer directly to PC TOURS AND TRAVEL by fax: +852 2723 9044.

Round trip transfers from the recommended hotels in Tsim Sha Tsui East area to HKUST will be provided by PC TOURS AND TRAVEL on the conference days only. Schedule and pick-up points will be announced.  

  • Transportation from Airport to the Hotels

*  Passengers must show either a valid air ticket, boarding pass, Airport Express                 ticket, Octopus card or Airport Express ticket voucher when boarding the free shuttle bus.   

  • Transportation from the Hotels to HKUST
