The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has launched the “Innovating Today, Imagining Tomorrow” Mentorship Program in collaboration with The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups (HKFYG) in its 25th Anniversary year with an aim of serving the local community and nurturing future leaders by advancing learning and knowledge.

Through interdisciplinary trainings and mentoring activities, the mentorship program will broaden local high school students’ horizons, and inspire them to unleash their potential and pursue personal goals. The mentorship program is one of the many community engagement events to mark the University’s 25th Anniversary.

Prof King L Chow, Director of Interdisciplinary Programs Office of HKUST, said at the kick-off ceremony of the program, “HKUST is pleased to partner with HKFYG to offer a unique exposure to the younger generation.  Through mentoring and thematic learning activities, we hope that students can get a glimpse of university life and be inspired by our faculty on learning and personal development.”

Ms Alice Lui, Supervisor of HKFYG, welcomed all students earning themselves the chance to learn from academic professionals from different fields in HKUST.  In her remarks, Ms Lui said, “I hope all students could cherish this unique opportunity and take the initiative to engage with mentors, exploring personal life goals and aspirations.”

A total of 26 faculty members from School of Science, School of Engineering, School of Business and Management as well as School of Humanities and Social Science of HKUST participate in the mentorship program. They share with 70 Form 4 to Form 5 students in groups the cutting-edge science and technology and the latest research and development in business management and social science from February to July. The participating students will also join campus visits and interdisciplinary learning activities at HKUST.  In addition, each student is assigned to one HKUST faculty member as mentor who will share their experience and offer advice on personal growth and academic pursuit.
